Gro-Med 650g coco coir brick. Expands to about 10 quarts (2.5+ gallons). OMRI Listed, triple washed, low EC and pH neutral.

Description

The 650g Gro-Med coco coir brick is the small size of our triple-washed, low EC, OMRI Listed coir. It expands to about 10 quarts (2.5+ gallons) — the right amount for one small monotub, a casing layer or a test batch.

Use it as the coir in a small CVG mix, or on its own for seed starting and potting. You get the same clean, pH-neutral coir as our 5kg brick without having to hydrate 20 gallons at once.

Why growers pick the 650g brick

  • Triple washed, low EC – Excess salts are rinsed out, so you start from a clean base for mushroom substrate and sensitive roots.
  • OMRI Listed – Approved for organic growing.
  • pH neutral – Roughly 5.8–6.5, so it goes straight into a CVG blend or casing layer without buffering.
  • Holds water, keeps air – Stays at field capacity without packing down or waterlogging, which supports even colonization.
  • Naturally resistant to mold and bacteria – A cleaner foundation than peat or garden soil.
  • Right-sized – Hydrate exactly what one small tub or test batch needs, with nothing left over to store wet.

How to hydrate a brick

  1. Pick a container. A 650g brick grows to about 10 quarts, so a 5-gallon bucket is plenty.
  2. Add hot water. Pour it over the brick and let it soak in and loosen the fibers.
  3. Break it up. Fluff the coir by hand as it expands, then let it cool.
  4. Bring it to field capacity. A firm squeeze should release only a few drops of water.
  5. Mix and use. Blend with vermiculite and gypsum for CVG, use it as a casing layer, or add it to garden and hydroponic mixes.

FAQ

How much does the brick expand?

Once hydrated, it expands to about 10 quarts (2.5+ gallons).

Is this coco coir good for mushroom substrate?

Yes. Gro-Med coir is triple washed, low EC and pH neutral, which makes it a clean base for CVG (coco coir, vermiculite, gypsum) and casing layers. It holds moisture while still letting air through for colonization.

Do I need to buffer the pH?

No. It is pH neutral (roughly 5.8–6.5), so it can go straight into a CVG blend.

Is it organic?

Yes. Gro-Med coir is OMRI Listed for organic growing and is 100% natural coconut coir with no additives.

Can I use it for plants too?

Yes. It works in garden soil mixes, seed starting and hydroponics as well as mushroom substrate.

I need more coir. What should I buy?

The 5kg brick expands to more than 20 gallons, and the 4-pack costs less per brick.
