How to hydrate a brick

Pick a big container. A 5kg brick grows to more than 20 gallons, so use a large tub, bin or mixer.

Add hot water. Pour it over the brick and let it soak in and loosen the fibers.

Break it up. Fluff the coir by hand as it expands, then let it cool.

Bring it to field capacity. A firm squeeze should release only a few drops of water.

Mix and use. Blend with vermiculite and gypsum for CVG, use it as a casing layer, or add it to garden and hydroponic mixes.
