Microppose Sterile Petri Dishes are 90mm x 15mm optical-grade polystyrene plates, 20 to a sleeve, factory-sterilized and sealed so you can open them under your flow hood, pour your agar and start working — no autoclave needed for the dishes.
Each dish weighs 16 grams, 25% heavier than typical disposable plates, for better stack stability and less flex during transfers. Triple-vented lids balance gas exchange to reduce condensation, and a flat bottom spreads agar evenly. Dishes are gamma-irradiated and packed in nitrogen-flushed, tear-away sleeves. They're single-use: when you're done, just dispose of them.

How to pour your plates
- Prepare the agar. Mix agar powder with distilled water in an autoclavable container, sterilize at 15 PSI for 20 minutes and cool to 120–140°F (50–60°C).
- Open the sleeve clean. Work in front of a flow hood or in a still air box, and tear open the sleeve only when you're ready to pour.
- Pour. Fill each dish about 1/3 full (roughly 18–20 mL) and replace the lid right away.
- Let it set. Leave plates undisturbed for 30–45 minutes with lids slightly cracked to reduce condensation.
- Use or store. Stack set plates upside-down. Use right away or seal and refrigerate at 35–40°F for up to 30 days.
Do not autoclave. Polystyrene warps and melts at autoclave temperatures. These are single-use plates — for dishes you can sterilize and reuse, choose Microppose reusable autoclavable petri dishes.

FAQ
Can I autoclave or reuse these?
No. They're single-use polystyrene, which warps and melts at autoclave temperatures. For reusable dishes, choose our autoclavable polypropylene version.
Do I need an autoclave to use them?
Not for the dishes, which arrive sterile. You do need a pressure cooker or autoclave to sterilize your agar before pouring — or choose pre-poured agar plates instead.
How are they sterilized?
They're gamma-irradiated and sealed in nitrogen-flushed sleeves. They stay sterile as long as the sleeve seal is intact; once opened, use the plates within a few days.
How are these different from the reusable Microppose dishes?
These are single-use polystyrene with slightly better optical clarity. The reusable version is autoclavable polypropylene for repeat workflows. Both are 90mm x 15mm (16g vs. 17g).
What agar should I use?
