Description

A bulk 500-pack case of Microppose sterile petri dishes — 90mm × 15mm optical-grade polystyrene plates with triple-vented lids, packed as 25 sealed sleeves of 20. Open one sleeve at a time; the other 24 stay sealed and sterile until you need them. Also sold by the pallet of 28 cases with freight included to the lower 48.

This is the case quantity for commercial mushroom labs, university and high school biology programs, tissue culture facilities and culture producers who pour agar every week. No autoclave step for the plates themselves: open a sleeve under the hood and pour.

  • Factory-sterile
  • Optical-grade polystyrene
  • Triple-vented lids
  • 25 sleeves of 20
  • 500Dishes per case
  • 90 × 15mmDish size
  • 16 gPer dish
  • 25 × 20Sealed sleeves
  • 14,000Dishes per pallet

Why labs buy Microppose by the case

  • Optical-grade polystyrene – Glass-like clarity for reading mycelium growth, spotting contamination early, and photographing cultures.
  • Heavier than typical disposables – 16 grams per dish — 25% heavier than typical disposable plates — for steadier stacks of hundreds of plates and less flex during transfers.
  • Triple-vented lids – Balanced gas exchange reduces condensation during incubation while the lid keeps a sterile barrier.
  • Flat bottoms – Even agar depth across the plate when you pour production batches.
  • Machine-stackable – Smooth, consistent surfaces work with automated stackers and plate handlers.
  • Sterile until opened – Gamma-irradiated and sealed in nitrogen-flushed sleeves; unopened sleeves stored clean and dry stay sterile for years.

Who buys the 500-pack case

  • Commercial mushroom farms running cloning, isolation and genetic library work
  • University and college biology and microbiology programs
  • High school AP biology and dual-enrollment lab courses
  • Plant and cannabis tissue culture facilities
  • Research labs in mycology, plant pathology and microbiology
  • Culture producers pouring agar for resale

For occasional agar work, the 20-pack sleeve is the better buy. The case makes sense when you will work through 500 plates within a year.

How to pour a production batch

  1. Open one sleeve. Under a laminar flow hood or in a clean workstation, open only the sleeve you need. The rest stay sealed in the case.
  2. Prepare agar separately. Sterilize your agar in autoclave-safe containers and let it cool to 120–140°F (50–60°C). One 200g bag of Myco Labs LME agar powder pours 200+ plates.
  3. Pour. Fill each dish about one-third full — roughly 18–20ml — and replace the lid right away.
  4. Set and store. Let plates solidify with lids slightly cracked, then stack them upside down to keep condensation off the agar. Sealed poured plates keep about 30 days refrigerated at 35–40°F.
  5. Dispose after use. These are single-use plates. Do not autoclave polystyrene — it warps at autoclave temperature.

Pallets and institutional orders: a pallet is 28 cases (14,000 dishes) with freight included to the lower 48. We accept purchase orders and offer net-30 terms to qualified institutional buyers — contact us to set up an account or for Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and multi-pallet freight.

Disposable or reusable?

We carry both formats by the case. Disposable polystyrene wins on speed, clarity and zero cleanup; reusable polypropylene wins on long-term cost if you have autoclave capacity.

Choose Disposable polystyrene 500-pack Reusable polypropylene 500-pack
Sterilization Factory-sterile; never autoclave Factory-sterile first use; autoclave between uses
Clarity Optical-grade, glass-like Clear
Weight per dish 16 g 17 g
Cleanup Discard after use Wash, re-sterilize, reuse
Best for Classrooms, speed, photo documentation Labs with autoclave capacity, lowest long-term cost per plate

Smaller quantity? The same Microppose polystyrene dish is sold as a 20-pack sleeve, and our pre-poured plates skip the pour entirely — see agar tools & supplies and pre-sterilized agar plates.

Common questions

How is the case packaged?

Each case holds 25 individually sealed, sterile sleeves of 20 plates in a protective outer carton. Open only the sleeves you need; the rest stay sealed and sterile.

How long do unopened sleeves stay sterile?

Microppose plates are gamma-irradiated and sealed in nitrogen-flushed sleeves. Kept in a clean, dry place out of direct sunlight with the seal intact, unopened sleeves stay sterile for years.

Can I autoclave these plates?

No. Polystyrene warps and melts at autoclave temperatures (121°C / 250°F). For plates you can sterilize and reuse, choose the Microppose reusable polypropylene 500-pack.

Do these work with automated plate handling equipment?

Yes. The smooth surfaces and consistent dimensions are designed for automated stackers, dispensers and handlers used in production and research labs.

Do you offer pallets or institutional terms?

Yes. A pallet is 28 cases (14,000 dishes) with freight included to the lower 48 United States. We accept purchase orders and offer net-30 terms for qualified institutional buyers — contact us to set up an account.

How much agar do I need for a full case?

One 200g bag of Myco Labs LME agar powder pours 200+ plates at about 18–20ml each, so a 500-plate case takes roughly two and a half bags.

Are these the same plates as the 20-pack?

Yes — the identical Microppose 90mm × 15mm polystyrene dish, bought in case quantity.
