The Bonsai 2' × 2' HEPA Fan Filter Unit (FFU) is the compact size in our FFU lineup — cleanroom-grade HEPA airflow over a bench-sized work area, at a fraction of the size and cost of a full laminar flow hood cabinet.
It pushes air through a true H14 HEPA filter rated 99.995% at 0.3 microns for ISO Class 5 / Class 100 clean air. Every Bonsai FFU uses a backward-curved aluminum blower, a 20-gauge powder-coated housing and a washable magnetic pre-filter, and plugs into a standard 120V outlet.

How to set it up
- Place it. Set the FFU on a sturdy table or bench with the filter face toward your work area.
- Plug it in. Use a standard grounded 110/120V outlet — no special wiring.
- Let it run. Turn it on and let it run before you start so the work area fills with filtered air.
- Work in the airflow. Keep plates, jars and bags between the filter face and your hands, and don’t reach over open plates.
- Maintain it. Rinse the magnetic pre-filter periodically and keep a replacement HEPA filter on hand.

When to replace the HEPA filter
There's no single expiry date for a HEPA filter. It wears out two ways: dust loading, which tracks run hours and how clean your room is, and aging of the media and gasket seals, which tracks the calendar. Plan on about 24 months for typical hobby use and 12–18 months in a busy lab. Keep it in service as long as it passes an agar plate test and holds its airflow, and replace it sooner if it doesn't.

How often should I replace the HEPA filter?
For typical hobby use, plan on replacing it about every 24 months; in a busy lab running most of the day, every 12–18 months; and in a dusty, round-the-clock space, every 6–12 months. Some manufacturers recommend replacing as often as every 12 months, because filter media and seals age even when the unit isn't running.
