Description

These Rapid Rhizo pre-poured agar plates come 10 to a pack and use a custom nutrient and yeast blend that encourages fast, aggressive rhizomorphic mycelium, so it's easier to isolate your strongest genetics and capture clean, photogenic transfers.

Each 90 x 15mm plate holds 20 mL of agar, sterilized at 18 PSI for 30 minutes and machine-poured in our lab. They're poured fresh and sealed in protective packaging to help preserve moisture and performance. Rapid Rhizo is the plate experienced cultivators reach for when cleaning cultures, transferring isolates and showcasing final sectors.

How to use agar plates

  1. Work clean. Open plates only in front of a flow hood or inside a still air box.
  2. Transfer in. Place a clean wedge from an earlier plate, a small piece of tissue, or a drop of culture onto the agar.
  3. Seal. Wrap the edge of the plate with lab poly film.
  4. Incubate. Watch for rhizomorphic mycelium to spread across the surface.
  5. Select and expand. Cut the strongest, cleanest sector with a sterile scalpel and move it to a fresh plate, grain jar, spawn bag or liquid culture.

Workflow tip: Many growers start spores on LME/MEA, clean up on early transfers, then finish on Rapid Rhizo, or use Black MEA when visibility matters.

Which agar plate should I choose?

Different agar recipes are useful at different stages — spore germination, contamination checks, clean transfers and final display plates.

Agar type Best for Why growers use it Stage
Rapid Rhizo (this listing) 2nd and 3rd transfers, clean isolation, showcase plates Encourages aggressive, threadlike growth that's easy to select and preserve After first clean-up → final transfers
Regular LME / MEA Spore germination, first plates, contamination checks A reliable baseline that makes early growth and contamination easier to evaluate Start here → first transfer
Black MEA High-visibility growth, photo-friendly plates, subtle sector spotting Dark background makes mycelium edges, sectors and early contaminants stand out Any stage, especially evaluation
Manure-enriched conditioning agar Preparing cultures for bulk substrates, performance testing Conditions cultures to richer media and shows how genetics behave on supplemented nutrition Mid-to-late stage, after a clean culture
