Description

The Bonsai 4' × 2' HEPA Fan Filter Unit (FFU) is the largest unit in our FFU lineup — the widest clean-air work area we make, and enough airflow to pressurize a clean room or grow space with HEPA-filtered air.

It pushes air through a true H14 HEPA filter rated 99.995% at 0.3 microns for ISO Class 5 / Class 100 clean air. Every Bonsai FFU uses a backward-curved aluminum blower, a 20-gauge powder-coated housing and a washable magnetic pre-filter, and plugs into a standard 120V outlet.

Why growers pick Bonsai FFUs

  • True H14 HEPA – Rated 99.995% efficiency at 0.3 microns for ISO Class 5 / Class 100 clean air.
  • Largest work area – A 4' wide filter face — room for high-volume agar pours, grain transfers and inoculation.
  • Aluminum blower – A backward-curved aluminum centrifugal wheel instead of the plastic blowers used in many low-cost FFUs.
  • Washable pre-filter – The magnetic electrostatic pre-filter catches larger particles first and rinses clean, extending HEPA filter life.
  • Compact 14" depth – Sits on a standard table or bench.
  • 3-speed control – Set the airflow to match your technique and workload.

FFU or full laminar flow hood? For most home growers an FFU works as a complete flow hood solution. Our flow hood vs FFU guide compares both side by side.

What you can do with it

  • Pour and transfer agar plates
  • Inoculate grain jars, spawn bags and substrate
  • Work with liquid culture, cloning and syringe prep
  • Build a dedicated clean-air workstation
  • Pressurize a clean room or grow space with HEPA-filtered air
  • Upgrade from a still air box to HEPA-filtered airflow

How to set it up

  1. Place it. Set the FFU on a sturdy table or bench with the filter face toward your work area.
  2. Plug it in. Use a standard grounded 110/120V outlet — no special wiring.
  3. Let it run. Turn it on and let it run before you start so the work area fills with filtered air.
  4. Work in the airflow. Keep plates, jars and bags between the filter face and your hands, and don’t reach over open plates.
  5. Maintain it. Rinse the magnetic pre-filter periodically and keep a replacement HEPA filter on hand.

FAQ

Can an FFU replace a laminar flow hood?

For most home growers, yes. It gives you HEPA-filtered airflow over your work area for agar, liquid culture and inoculation. Our flow hood vs FFU guide covers where each one fits best.

What HEPA filter does it use?

A true H14 HEPA filter rated 99.995% efficient at 0.3 microns, for ISO Class 5 / Class 100 clean air.

Does it need special wiring?

No. It plugs into a standard grounded 110/120V outlet.

How loud is it?

About 50–60 dBA, roughly like a window air conditioner.

How do I maintain it?

Rinse the washable magnetic pre-filter periodically. It catches larger particles so the HEPA filter lasts longer, and a replacement HEPA filter is available when you need one.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Every Bonsai FFU has an 18-month limited warranty covering manufacturer defects and workmanship under normal use. Unopened units can be returned; opened units are eligible for exchange only. Shipping damage is handled promptly.
