Description
Description
A 500-pack case of Microppose reusable, autoclavable petri dishes — 90mm × 15mm polypropylene plates with triple-vented lids, packed in sterile sleeves of 20. Use them straight from the sleeve the first time, then wash, autoclave and pour again. Also sold by the pallet of 28 cases with freight included to the lower 48.
Disposable plates are cheap until you are pouring hundreds a month. Polypropylene survives the autoclave, so the plates you buy once keep coming back through the workflow — lower cost per pour and far less plastic in the trash.

Why labs pick Microppose reusable plates
- Built for repeat sterilization – High-temperature polypropylene handles standard 121°C / 15 psi autoclave cycles run after run.
- Heavier than disposables – At 17 grams per dish — 20% thicker than typical disposable plates — they stack securely and resist cracking under thermal stress.
- Triple-vented lids – Balanced gas exchange during incubation reduces condensation while the lid keeps a sterile barrier.
- Ready for first use – Each sleeve of 20 is sterile from the factory, so the first pour needs no prep.
- Designed in the USA – Microppose designs the dishes here; they are manufactured in India by one of the world's largest labware producers.
What comes in the case
- 500 Microppose 90mm × 15mm reusable petri dishes with triple-vented lids
- Packed in sterile sleeves of 20 (25 sleeves per case)
- Pallet option: 28 cases (14,000 dishes), freight included to the lower 48 United States
How to use and reuse
- First pour. Open a sleeve under a laminar flow hood or in a still air box and pour sterilized, cooled agar — about 18–20ml per plate.
- Work your cultures. Let plates set, inoculate, and incubate as normal.
- Clean. Scrape spent agar into the trash or compost, wash the dishes in warm soapy water, and rinse thoroughly.
- Re-sterilize. Stack dishes in an autoclave-safe bag or wrap and run a standard 121°C / 15 psi cycle for 30–45 minutes.
- Cool and pour again. Let dishes cool fully before refilling. With proper care each dish handles many cycles.
Pairs with our agar: one 200g bag of Myco Labs LME agar powder pours 200+ plates, so a full case runs through about two and a half bags. Find it in agar supplies.
Pallet orders: a pallet is 28 cases (14,000 dishes) and freight to the lower 48 is included in the price. Contact us before ordering for Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, or multi-pallet shipments.

Disposable or reusable?
We stock both formats by the case. The short version: reusable wins on long-term cost if you can absorb the wash-and-autoclave step; disposable wins on speed and clarity.
| Choose | Disposable polystyrene 500-pack | Reusable polypropylene 500-pack |
|---|---|---|
| Sterilization | Factory-sterile; never autoclave | Factory-sterile first use; autoclave between uses |
| Clarity | Optical-grade, glass-like | Clear |
| Weight per dish | 16 g | 17 g |
| Cleanup | Discard after use | Wash, re-sterilize, reuse |
| Best for | Classrooms, speed, photo documentation | Labs with autoclave capacity, lowest long-term cost per plate |
Smaller quantity?Microppose reusable dishes also come in 20-packs, and we carry pre-poured plates if you would rather not pour your own — see agar tools & supplies and pre-sterilized agar plates.
Common questions
Are these glass or plastic?
They are high-temperature polypropylene plastic, not glass. Polypropylene is the standard material for reusable autoclavable petri dishes because it handles repeated sterilization without the breakage risk of glass.
How do I re-sterilize them?
Wash and rinse the dishes, stack them in an autoclave-safe bag or wrap, and run a 121°C / 15 psi cycle for 30–45 minutes. Let them cool completely before pouring.
Are they sterile when they arrive?
Yes. Each sleeve of 20 is sterile from the factory, so the first use needs no sterilization. After that, autoclave between uses.
How many plates does a pallet hold?
A pallet is 28 cases of 500, or 14,000 dishes, with freight included to the lower 48 United States.
How much agar do I need for a full case?
One 200g bag of our LME agar powder pours 200+ plates at about 18–20ml each, so plan on roughly two and a half bags per 500-plate case.
What is the difference between these and the polystyrene 500-pack?
These polypropylene plates can be autoclaved and reused. The polystyrene plates are single-use: factory-sterile, optically clearer, and discarded after use because polystyrene warps in an autoclave.
