Why growers restock with a refill kit

  • Bundle pricing – Costs less than buying spawn, substrate, filters and a liner separately.
  • Matched to the tub – Spawn and substrate amounts sized for a 44-quart monotub.
  • Fresh filters and liner – New filter disks and a clean liner for every run.
  • No sterilizing or mixing – Sterilized grain spawn and pasteurized, pre-hydrated substrate, ready to use.

What's in the kit

  • 1 × Premium 5-Grain spawn bag (2.25 lbs)
  • 7.5 lbs of Select Bulk Substrate, pasteurized and pre-hydrated
  • 6 monotub filter disks
  • Custom-fit black monotub liner

You provide: a spore or liquid culture syringe, and your 44-quart monotub with its incubation plugs. Need a tub? Get the Complete Medium 44Q kit.

How it works

  1. Inoculate the spawn. Wipe the injection port with alcohol and inject 5–7cc of spores or liquid culture into the spawn bag.
  2. Colonize the grain. Keep it at 72–76°F out of direct light. At about 25–30% colonization, break up and shake the grain, then let it finish until fully white.
  3. Spawn to bulk. Clean your tub and fit the new liner. Break up the colonized grain and mix it evenly with the bulk substrate, then level the surface.
  4. Colonize the tub. Seal the air holes and let the tub colonize, warm and undisturbed, until the surface is white.
  5. Fruit. Swap the plugs for the new filter disks, give the tub indirect light and mist the walls to keep humidity up.

FAQ

What do I need to add?

A spore or liquid culture syringe, plus your 44-quart monotub and its incubation plugs from your original kit.

Does it include vermiculite?

No. The refill kit covers spawn, substrate, filter disks and a liner. Add your own vermiculite if you like to case the surface.

Will it fit my tub?

It is sized for a 44-quart monotub like the Grower's Select tub in our Complete Medium 44Q kit.

How much spore solution or liquid culture should I use?

Inject 5–7cc of spores or liquid culture into the spawn bag.

What temperature does it need?

Keep the grain and the tub at 72–76°F while they colonize. In a cool room, a heating mat under the tub helps.

Should I reuse the old liner?

Swap in the new liner that comes in the kit. It keeps the tub clean between grows and cuts down on side pinning.
