Active Air Liquid Culture Kit

Home lab Active Air system in use

The Midwest Grow Kits Active Air Liquid Culture Kit is a professional-grade oxygenated liquid culture system designed to support faster, cleaner, and more consistent mycelium development. By introducing sterile, filtered air directly into the culture, this system helps maintain healthy, fluid mycelium that’s easier to draw, transfer, and scale—without the dense clumping often seen in traditional liquid culture jars.

Built with reusable, high-temperature components and shipped fully sterilized, this system integrates seamlessly into existing liquid culture workflows and is ideal for intermediate to advanced growers looking to improve consistency, efficiency, and output.

What’s Included

Complete Active Air Liquid Culture System:

  • Sterilized 28oz wide-mouth liquid culture jar with dextrose & extra-light malt solution and organic anti-foaming agent
  • Reusable lid system with self-healing injection port, 0.22 micron filters, tubing, back-flow valve, hose clamps, and custom fittings
  • 3D-printed exhaust loop tube holder to maintain clean airflow routing
  • Magnetic stir bar with handheld retrieval magnet
  • Hagen Marina 50 (2.5W) air pump
  • 24-hour heavy-duty timer for controlled airflow cycles
  • 60cc syringe, 16g needles, and alcohol swabs for clean transfers
  • Extra replacement filters for long-term use
  • Printed step-by-step instruction booklet

Active Air Kit – Jar & Lid Only:

  • Sterilized 28oz liquid culture jar (same solution)
  • Reusable filtered lid system with tubing and valves
  • 3D-printed exhaust loop holder
  • Magnetic stir bar & handheld magnet
  • 60cc syringe, needles, alcohol swabs
  • Extra filters and instruction booklet
  • Air pump and timer not included.

Reusable Active Air Lid Only:

  • Wide-mouth jar lid with self-healing injection port and 0.22 micron filtration
  • Back-flow valve, tubing, hose clamps, and fittings
  • 3D-printed exhaust loop holder
  • Compatible with most standard wide-mouth mason jars
  • Includes complete usage and airflow guidance

How It’s Used

  1. Inject spores, liquid culture, or an agar wedge through the self-healing injection port.
  2. Incubate the jar at 76–82°F (species dependent) until visible mycelium appears.
  3. Once growth is established (typically 5–7 days), activate the air pump to begin oxygenation.
  4. Continue incubation for an additional 7–10 days with controlled airflow.
  5. After maturity, reduce airflow to 30–60 minutes every 8–10 hours to maintain activity and prevent clumping.

This system is designed to fit naturally into standard liquid culture timelines and does not require constant monitoring once airflow is dialed in.

How It Works

Traditional liquid culture jars rely on passive gas exchange, which can limit oxygen availability and contribute to slow growth or dense mycelium clumps. The Active Air system actively delivers sterile, filtered air into the culture, increasing available oxygen while maintaining a sealed, contamination-resistant environment.

This controlled oxygenation encourages smaller, evenly distributed mycelium structures that remain suspended in solution. The result is a more workable liquid culture that draws easily into syringes and transfers cleanly to grain or other substrates.

Why Growers Choose This

  • Encourages faster and more uniform liquid culture development
  • Helps reduce mycelium clumping and hardening
  • Produces fluid cultures that are easier to draw and inject
  • Supports more consistent grain inoculation results
  • Reusable, sterilizable components built for long-term workflows
  • Scales easily from single jars to multi-jar setups using one pump
  • Ideal for growers refining technique or increasing production efficiency
