Description
The Super Quick-Colonizing 24oz 5-Grain Jar is the fastest-colonizing grain jar we sell — a custom tapered glass jar of 5-grain spawn with a high ratio of smaller grains, averaging about 14–20 days to full colonization.
The smaller jar and grain mass colonize faster than a standard 32oz jar, and the tapered shape lets the finished grain cake slide right out when it is time to spawn to bulk. The lid has a self-healing injection port and a 0.22 micron filter disk. Need more than one? The 3-pack costs less per jar.

Why growers pick the 24oz jars
- Fastest colonization we offer – Smaller jar, smaller grain mass and a high ratio of small grains — about 14–20 days on average.
- Tapered glass – The colonized grain cake slides out cleanly instead of being dug out of the jar.
- Fortified hydration – Mineral water with gypsum and diammonium phosphate.
- Clean inoculation – Self-healing injection port and a 0.22 micron filter disk on every lid.
- Built for bulk – Colonized grain breaks up and spreads evenly through bulk substrate.

What's in the box
- One 24oz tapered glass jar
- Rye berries, white milo, red milo, white millet, red millet, with a high ratio of smaller grains (5-grain blend)
- Self-healing injection port and 0.22 micron filter disk on the lid
- Pressure-sterilized at 15 PSI for 3 hours
How to use it
- Prep. Wipe the injection port with alcohol and use a sterile needle and syringe.
- Inoculate. Inject 3–4cc of spore solution or 4–6cc of liquid culture through the self-healing port. Not sure how many syringes to buy? Use our syringe calculator.
- Incubate. Keep the jar warm, out of direct light and undisturbed until mycelium is clearly growing.
- Shake. At about 25–30% colonization, shake the jar to break up the grain and spread the mycelium, then let it finish.
- Spawn to bulk. Once the jar is fully white, break it up and mix it evenly into bulk substrate in your monotub.

How many jars per monotub?
Plan on 2–3 jars per 5 lbs of bulk substrate. By tub size:
| Monotub | Bulk substrate | 32oz jars | 24oz jars |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small 28Q | About 4 lbs | 1 | 2 |
| Medium 44Q | 7.5 lbs | 2–3 | 3–4 |
| Large 66Q | 10 lbs | 2–4 | 4–6 |

FAQ
What grains are in the 5-grain blend?
Rye berries, white milo, red milo, white millet and red millet. The 24oz blend uses a higher ratio of the smaller grains for more inoculation points.
How much spore solution or liquid culture per jar?
3–4cc of spore solution or 4–6cc of liquid culture, injected through the self-healing port after wiping it with alcohol.
How long do the 24oz jars take to colonize?
About 14–20 days on average. The smaller jar and higher ratio of small grains usually colonize faster than a 32oz jar. Strain, temperature and inoculant all affect timing.
When should I shake the jar?
At about 25–30% colonization. Shake to break up the grain and spread the mycelium, then let the jar finish colonizing.
How many jars do I need for my monotub?
Plan on 2–3 jars per 5 lbs of bulk substrate. That works out to about 2 jars for a Small 28Q, 3–4 for a Medium 44Q and 4–6 for a Large 66Q.
How long do uninoculated jars keep?
They are made fresh. Use them within 90 days for best results, or refrigerate them to keep them up to 120 days.
Why is the jar tapered?
The tapered glass lets the fully colonized grain cake slide out more easily when it is time to break it up and spawn to bulk.
