Oyster Mushroom Grow Kits

Oyster Mushroom Grow Kits

(6 products)

Oyster mushrooms are the easiest gourmet mushroom to grow at home, and every 5 lb kit here arrives as a fully colonized, ready-to-fruit block. Cut the bag, mist the face once or twice a day, and dense clusters form right on your counter. No sterile technique, no incubation, no equipment beyond the mister in the box.

Pick your variety by room temperature. Blue Oyster handles cool rooms down to 55°F, Pink Oyster wants warmth above 72°F, and King Oyster (King Trumpet) gives the heaviest harvest in the line at 4–5 lbs. Every block produces multiple flushes.

Stocking a store or farm stand? Retail case packs of ten 3 lb kits are listed last. Scaling past kits? Oyster strains are also available as colonized grain spawn and liquid culture syringes. New to oysters? Start with our oyster growing tips.

Which oyster mushroom kit should you grow?

All five retail kits are 5 lb fully colonized blocks that fruit the same way: cut the bag, mist the face, give them fresh air and indirect light. The real difference is the temperature each one wants. Match the kit to the room you have, and the harvest takes care of itself.

VarietyFruiting tempTypical yieldBest for
Blue Oyster 55–80°F Up to 2.5–3 lbs Cool rooms and basements; first-time growers
Pink Oyster 72–82°F 2.5–3 lbs Warm rooms; the fastest kit we sell
King Oyster (King Trumpet) 60–82°F 4–5 lbs The biggest harvest; thick, meaty stems
King Blue Oyster 60–82°F 2.5–3 lbs Thicker clusters than Blue Oyster, same easy care
Pearl White Oyster 64–77°F Up to 3 lbs Average indoor rooms; needs only 4–6 hrs of light

Not sure what your room runs? Put a cheap thermometer where the block will sit for a day. If it reads below 70°F, skip Pink Oyster and choose Blue Oyster or King Oyster. If it stays warm, Pink Oyster will outrun every other kit on the shelf.

How an oyster mushroom kit works

  1. Cut the bag. A slit across the face of the block exposes the mycelium to fresh air, which is the signal to switch from growing to fruiting.
  2. Mist once or twice a day. Keep the cut face damp without leaving standing water on it. Every retail kit includes a fine mister.
  3. Give it fresh air and indirect light. Oysters stretch toward oxygen, so a block in a closed cabinet grows long stems and small caps. Normal room air fixes it.
  4. Harvest the whole cluster. Twist it off at the base once the caps are developed but before the edges flatten out.
  5. Rest, then repeat. Stop misting for about a week, then resume. Each block produces multiple flushes.

Oyster mushroom kit FAQ

What is the easiest oyster mushroom to grow?

Blue Oyster. It fruits across the widest temperature range in our line, from 55°F to 80°F, so it does well in basements, garages and ordinary living spaces alike. That tolerance makes it the most forgiving choice for a first kit.

Which oyster mushroom kit gives the biggest harvest?

King Oyster (King Trumpet). A 5 lb block typically yields 4–5 lbs of mushrooms, compared with 2.5–3 lbs for the other oyster varieties. The trade-off is time: King Oyster takes 3–4 weeks to pin, the slowest in the line.

How long does an oyster mushroom kit take to fruit?

It depends on the variety and the room. Pink Oyster is the fastest; in a warm room, pins often appear within days of opening the bag. King Blue Oyster usually pins within the first week or two. King Oyster is the slowest at 3–4 weeks. Warmer rooms speed every variety up.

Why are my oyster mushrooms long and stringy with small caps?

That is a fresh air problem, not a water problem. Oyster mushrooms stretch toward oxygen, so a block in a closed cabinet or sealed container grows long stems and undersized caps. Move it somewhere with normal room air circulation, and if you use a humidity tent, vent it daily.

Can I get more than one harvest from an oyster kit?

Yes. After you pick a cluster, stop misting for about a week to let the block rest, then resume misting. Each block produces multiple flushes.

What is the difference between an oyster grow kit and oyster grain spawn?

A grow kit is a finished fruiting block, ready to produce mushrooms with nothing else required. Grain spawn is an ingredient: colonized grain you mix into bulk substrate to start a much larger grow. If you want mushrooms on the counter, take the kit. If you are scaling up, start with pre-colonized grain spawn bags.

What are the oyster mushroom retail case packs?

They are cases of ten 3 lb oyster grow kits, in Blue Oyster or Pink Oyster, packed for stores, garden centers and farm stands that want to resell kits. Home growers should choose one of the 5 lb retail kits above.
