We would rather set this straight up front: morels are notoriously difficult to cultivate, and no supplier can promise you a flush. Indoor fruiting remains unreliable even in research settings. What does work, repeatedly, is an outdoor habitat bed in a region with real winters — cold, wet, snowy — where the mycelium can go through the seasonal cycle it evolved for.

How to Use Your Liquid Culture Syringe
- Let the syringe come to room temperature, then shake gently to redistribute the mycelium evenly through the broth.
- Flame-sterilize the needle until it glows orange and let it cool for a few seconds.
- Wipe the injection port on your rye berry spawn bag or jar with the alcohol prep pad.
- Inject 2–3cc per quart jar, or 3–5cc per 3–5 lb spawn bag. One 10cc syringe inoculates roughly 2–4 containers.
- Incubate at 60–70°F in the dark for twelve to twenty-one days until the grain is fully colonized.
- Build a shaded outdoor bed under hardwoods using wood chips, coir and sawdust. Mix the spawn through it, keep it moist, and leave it to overwinter.

Work the spawn through the material, water it thoroughly and keep the area moist. Then leave it alone and let the seasons do the work.
Do I need cold winters to grow morels?
Yes, and this is not negotiable. Morels need a genuine seasonal temperature swing, and beds perform best in regions with cold, wet or snowy winters. The overwintering period is part of the life cycle rather than an inconvenience. In a mild-winter climate your chances drop sharply regardless of technique.
