Which Ecosphere System Is Right for You?
The Ecosphere line scales from a countertop fruiting chamber up to a full commercial-capacity greenhouse. Here is how the systems compare and which one fits your goals.
Tabletop Ecosphere — Countertop Automation
Best for: Small-space growers, fruiting a single block or bag, or anyone who wants a fully automated chamber that fits on a counter.
A compact 18 x 18 x 13 inch clear zip-up tent loaded with automation: a humidity controller for the included 3-liter cool mist humidifier, a fresh air exchange fan in the back, a built-in thermometer/humidity gauge, and more. Despite its size, it is one of the most versatile and hands-off fruiting chambers we make.

Foundation Edition — The Basics, No Heater
Best for: Growers in consistently warm spaces who don't need supplemental heat, or buyers who want to start with the core system and add a heater later.
The Foundation Edition includes the Ecosphere tent frame, clear cover, and the core growing essentials — without the custom infrared heating system. If your grow space stays reliably in the 70s year-round, you may not need the heater, and the Foundation Edition lets you skip that cost.

- 8 spawn bags
- 6 bags of substrate
- 6 extra aluminum growing trays
See the complete setup walkthrough: Monster Monsoon full setup video.
4-Tier vs. 5-Tier: Which Size?
The Ecosphere 3.0 and most packages let you choose between two tent sizes:
- 4-Tier: 29 x 20 x 63 inches, 17.7 cubic feet of grow chamber. Holds 6 to 7 growing trays, or 2 medium monotub bases per shelf if you prefer to grow in tubs.
- 5-Tier: 29 x 20 x 75 inches, 22.5 cubic feet of grow chamber. Holds 8 to 9 growing trays. The choice for maximum capacity.
Each tray is roughly equivalent to a medium 44Q monotub in growing capacity. That means a fully loaded 5-tier Ecosphere produces what 8 to 9 separate monotubs would — in a single climate-controlled footprint that takes up about 4 square feet of floor space.
How the climate control works
The Ecosphere's climate system is what separates it from a basic grow tent. Three components work together:
- Custom infrared heater. A ceramic heat lamp warms water and lava rocks, which creates both heat and a degree of humidity — a sauna-like environment that raises the internal temperature up to 15°F above ambient. We build this heater ourselves; you won't find it anywhere else.
- Circulation fan. Distributes the heat evenly throughout the tent so there are minimal hot spots, which means consistent fruiting conditions on every tier.
- 3-liter cool mist humidifier. Maintains the high humidity mushrooms need to fruit, with the temperature controller and timer keeping conditions stable automatically.
Popular add-ons for maxing out your tent
Fresh Air Amplifier Fan Unit
A fan-and-filter unit that attaches to the tent to actively push fresh, filtered air in. Recommended for growers running a fully loaded tent, where the higher density of fruiting blocks demands more fresh air exchange than passive ventilation provides.
Digital Humidity Controller
Adds precise automated humidity control for high-humidity environments. Plug your humidifier into the controller and set your target humidity — it cycles the humidifier on and off to hold the level automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ecosphere Greenhouse Systems
What is the Ecosphere greenhouse system?
The Ecosphere is a climate-controlled mushroom grow tent built for high-volume, year-round cultivation. It uses a tool-free tubular metal frame with a clear zip-up cover, plus a complete climate-control package (custom infrared heater, circulation fan, cool mist humidifier, LED lighting, temperature controller, and timer). It is designed for growers who have outgrown a single monotub and want to run multiple grows simultaneously in one footprint.
How much can an Ecosphere produce?
Each growing tray is roughly equivalent to a medium 44Q monotub in capacity. A 4-tier Ecosphere holds 6 to 7 trays; a 5-tier holds 8 to 9 trays. A fully loaded 5-tier system produces the equivalent of 8 to 9 monotubs running at once, all in about 4 square feet of floor space. Yields are very high for the footprint.
What is the difference between the 4-tier and 5-tier models?
The 4-tier measures 29 x 20 x 63 inches with 17.7 cubic feet of grow chamber and holds 6 to 7 trays. The 5-tier measures 29 x 20 x 75 inches with 22.5 cubic feet and holds 8 to 9 trays. Both have the same footprint; the 5-tier is taller for more vertical capacity. Choose the 5-tier if you want maximum production.
How does the Ecosphere heater work?
The Ecosphere uses our custom-built heating system: a ceramic infrared heat lamp that warms water and lava rocks, creating heat plus a degree of humidity for a sauna-like environment. A circulation fan distributes the heat evenly to minimize hot spots. The system raises the internal temperature up to 15°F above ambient, which makes it possible to grow year-round even in cooler spaces.
What is the difference between the Ecosphere packages?
The Foundation Edition is the basic system without the heater. The Ecosphere 3.0 is the complete climate-controlled system (our top seller). The Essentials Substrate Package is the 3.0 plus a discounted starter assortment of growing medium (6 PF Tek jars, 2 spawn bags, 2 substrate bags). The Monster Monsoon Package is the largest: a 5-tier system with Bluetooth monitoring, 8 spawn bags, 6 substrate bags, and 6 extra trays. The Tabletop Ecosphere is a small countertop fruiting chamber, separate from the full-size tents.
Can I grow in monotubs inside the Ecosphere?
Yes. While most growers use the included aluminum growing trays, each shelf also fits 2 medium monotub bases if you prefer to grow in tubs. This flexibility lets you mix and match trays and tubs depending on your workflow.
Can I grow gourmet mushrooms in the Ecosphere?
Absolutely. Many customers use the Ecosphere for gourmet fruiting blocks, and the multi-tray design lets you fruit several different species at once. The controlled humidity and fresh air exchange make it well suited to gourmet varieties that need consistent conditions to fruit well.
Is the Ecosphere easy to assemble?
Yes. The tubular metal frame assembles in minutes with no tools required, then the clear cover zips over the top. Setup is fast and beginner-friendly. We provide a printed guide plus instructional videos covering full setup and operation.
Do I need the Fresh Air Amplifier and Humidity Controller add-ons?
Not for a standard grow. They are recommended for growers running a fully loaded tent, where the higher density of fruiting blocks demands more fresh air exchange and tighter humidity control than the base system provides. If you are maxing out your tent's capacity, both add-ons help maintain ideal conditions throughout.
Where can I see the Ecosphere set up and running?
We have several video walkthroughs available. The Ecosphere overview video covers the full-size systems, the Monster Monsoon setup video walks through the complete package step by step, and the Tabletop Ecosphere video covers the countertop chamber. Every system also ships with a printed guide and access to additional instructional videos.
Is the Ecosphere good for cold basements or garages?
The Ecosphere 3.0 with its custom heater raises internal temperature up to 15°F above ambient, which works for moderately cool spaces. For very cold spaces (well below 65°F), you may need additional ambient heating in the room, or consider our Ultimate Classic Jar Kit, which uses a water-bath heating system designed to raise temperatures 20°F or more for the coldest environments.
