Why is my Reishi growing antlers instead of a flat cap?
Carbon dioxide. Reishi is unusually sensitive to CO2, and in a sealed or poorly ventilated bag it stretches into tall, branching antler shapes instead of forming a cap. Increase fresh air exchange and the growing tips will flatten out into the classic glossy conk. Many growers deliberately restrict air to produce antler form, so this is a dial rather than a fault.
How long does Red Reishi take to grow?
Longer than most species here. Grain colonization runs eighteen to twenty-one days, and fruiting takes another twenty-five to thirty-five days after conditions are set. Budget roughly two months from injection to harvest, and expect the mushroom to spend a while as a white knuckle before it develops any red at all.
What substrate is best for Red Reishi?
Supplemented hardwood sawdust gives the most consistent indoor results, and hardwood logs work well outdoors for growers willing to wait a season. Rye berries make excellent spawn. Reishi is a hardwood decomposer and will not perform on straw or manure-based substrates.
