Description

Blue Myco commercial autoclaves are high-capacity steam sterilizers built for professional mushroom farms, mycology labs, and commercial substrate production. Available in 310L, 550L, and 1180L chamber sizes, each unit sterilizes 450 to 1,500 pounds of grain per cycle at a true 14.7 PSI — the throughput of roughly 40 pressure cookers, in a footprint that fits a garage or compact production room.

Which Commercial Autoclave Size Do You Need?

B-310L — the entry point into commercial sterilization. A double-decker chamber that handles 150 three-pound grain bags per run in a footprint under three feet wide. Right for farms currently juggling four to six pressure cookers or a vertical autoclave that has become the bottleneck.

B-550L — a single-deck chamber with the widest opening in the lineup, which makes loading and stacking bulk substrate blocks easier than the double-deckers. 235 bags per run. The best fit for most farms scaling from hobby volume into steady weekly production.

B-1180L — 500 bags and 1,500 pounds of grain per cycle. This is production-line capacity. At 101 inches tall it needs real ceiling height and a dedicated 70A circuit, so plan the room before you plan the purchase.

How These Compare to Pressure Cookers and Vertical Autoclaves

Most growers start with stovetop pressure cookers, then move to a vertical 150L or 200L unit as volume grows. Those are excellent for small-scale work. The gap opens above that: once you need to reliably hold 15 PSI at real volume, the conventional answer is an industrial autoclave, and many of those systems run well past $100,000.

Blue Myco fills that gap. These are portable commercial sterilizers that reach the same working pressure at a fraction of industrial cost, and they pasteurize and sterilize in the same chamber — so one machine covers both grain spawn and bulk substrate.

Authorized dealer. Midwest Organics, LLC (Midwest Grow Kits) is the exclusive Blue Myco Manufacturing dealer for the Central and East Coast United States. We are also a customer — we run these units in our own production facility.

Before you order: confirm your electrical service, doorway clearance, and ceiling height. These units require 220V and a 50A or 70A circuit depending on model. Contact us and we will walk through site requirements with you before anything ships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size commercial mushroom autoclave do I need?

Work backward from weekly grain volume. The 310L handles 450 lbs per cycle, the 550L 700 lbs, and the 1180L 1,500 lbs. With a 3.5 to 4 hour cycle you can typically get two runs per shift, so a 550L running twice a day covers roughly 1,400 lbs of grain daily. Buy for the volume you expect in 12 months, not the volume you have today — but do not buy capacity you will not use regularly, because a half-loaded chamber costs the same in power and time as a full one.

How is a commercial autoclave different from a pressure cooker?

Scale and consistency. A pressure cooker sterilizes a handful of jars or bags; these chambers hold 150 to 500 bags. More importantly, a commercial autoclave holds pressure and temperature under automated control with safety valves, low-water shutoff, and a programmable timer, so every cycle is repeatable. That repeatability is what eliminates the contamination variance you get from running multiple cookers by hand.

What electrical service do these require?

All models run on 220V. The 310L draws 9kW on a 50A circuit, the 550L 13.5kW on 50A, and the 1180L 13.5kW on 70A. Each model can also be configured for 3-phase electric. Have an electrician confirm your available service before ordering.

Can these sterilize bulk substrate as well as grain?

Yes. The same chamber pasteurizes and sterilizes, so you can run manure-based and wood-based bulk substrate alongside your grain spawn program without a second machine. The 550L single-deck chamber has the widest opening, which makes loading large substrate blocks easier than the double-decker models.

Do these actually reach 15 PSI?

Yes. Operating pressure is 14.7 PSI with a 45 PSI maximum rating. Time to reach operating pressure is 60 minutes on the 310L, 80 on the 550L, and 90 on the 1180L. This is the specification that separates a true commercial autoclave from oversized pasteurizers that stall out below 15 PSI.

Can I see one in person before buying?

Yes. We run these units at our own facility in Woodstock, Illinois and welcome appointments. Call (815) 333-6716 or email jeff@midwestgrowkits.com to schedule a visit and see a full cycle run.
