Description
The Bonsai 12" PFS-300 Professional Impulse Heat Sealer is a 400-watt sealer built to close thick polypropylene mushroom spawn bags. It ships with a wide 8mm seal wire already installed, and its internals are upgraded with a pure copper transformer and copper coil wiring in place of the aluminum parts used in standard sealers.
Standard bag sealers often struggle with heavy spawn bag plastic: the seal comes out narrow, patchy, or peels open when the bag is handled. The PFS-300 pairs a high-wattage transformer with a wide wire, so each press lays down a broad, solid band of fused plastic across the full 12" jaw.

Seal width: why 8mm matters
The seal wire sets how wide the fused band of plastic is. A wider band means more sealed material between the inside of your bag and the outside air, so the seal is stronger and more forgiving of a small wrinkle or a stray bit of grain dust in the seal zone. The photo below compares a 2mm, 6mm and 8mm seal on the same bag material. The PFS-300 ships with the 8mm wire.

How to seal a spawn bag
- Clean the seal zone. Wipe any grain dust or moisture off the inside of the bag where the seal will go. Debris in the seal is the most common cause of a weak spot.
- Flatten the bag. Fold in any gussets and smooth the plastic so it lies flat and wrinkle-free across the jaw.
- Press the arm down. Hold the arm firmly closed. The wire heats only while the arm is pressed.
- Let it cool under pressure. Keep holding for a second or two after the heating cycle ends so the plastic sets before you release.
- Check the seal. A good seal is an even, clear band across the full width with no gaps or bubbles. If it looks patchy, reseal just above the first line.
Tip: sealing a second line a little above the first is quick insurance on a bag you plan to keep for weeks of colonization.

Will this seal filter-patch mushroom spawn bags?
Yes. That is what the PFS-300 was designed for. Its 400-watt copper transformer and 8mm wire are sized for the thick polypropylene used in spawn bags, which standard low-power sealers often struggle to seal completely.
Why is an 8mm seal better than a 2mm seal?
A wider seal puts more fused plastic between the inside of the bag and the outside air. That makes it stronger and more tolerant of small imperfections, such as a slight wrinkle or a bit of grain dust in the seal area, which could leave a gap in a narrow 2mm seal.
Does an impulse sealer need to warm up?
No. An impulse sealer only sends power to the wire while the arm is pressed down, so it is ready to use as soon as it is plugged in and does not stay hot between seals.
How do I get a consistent seal every time?
Keep the seal area clean and dry, flatten the bag so there are no folds across the jaw, and hold the arm down for a second or two after the heating cycle ends so the plastic cools under pressure. If a seal looks patchy, add a second line just above it.
