The Mushroom Ecosphere 3.0 Foundation Edition is a 4- or 5-tier mushroom greenhouse with the core of the Ecosphere system built in: a 3L Monsoon ultrasonic humidifier, COB LED lighting, two programmable timers, a molded drip liner, and filter disks for fresh air. It is the Ecosphere for growers whose room already holds a good fruiting temperature — everything you need for humidity and light, without paying for heat you don't need.
With no climate unit on the bottom rack, every shelf is growing space. Run jars, spawn bags, fruiting blocks, monotubs, and casing trays side by side, and add a heater, a humidity controller, or an extra tier whenever your grows call for it.

Not included: the Foundation Edition has no heater, circulation fan, or thermostat. It holds humidity and light, but the tent will sit at your room temperature. If you need heat, choose the full Mushroom Ecosphere 3.0 or add a heater and controller later.
How to set it up
- Assemble the frame. The steel shelving goes together without tools. Pull the clear cover over the frame and lay the 8mm drip liner on the bottom shelf.
- Mount the lighting. Run the COB LED strip where you want it and secure it with the included zip ties.
- Place the Monsoon humidifier. Set it beside the tent and route the fog into the chamber as shown in the setup guide.
- Program the timers. Set one timer for your light cycle and one for the humidifier's on/off schedule.
- Add filter disks and load your grows. Stick the filter disks to the cover for passive fresh air exchange, then fill the shelves and watch conditions on the Bluetooth hygrometer.

Build it outThe Foundation Edition is designed to grow with you. Add a digital humidity controller to run the humidifier by actual humidity instead of by the clock, the Fresh Air Amplifier fan unit for more fresh air, extra aluminum grow trays for bulk trays, or a 5th/6th tier attic shelf for more room at the top. Common questions
How is the Foundation Edition different from the full Ecosphere 3.0?
The Foundation Edition has the same tent, 3L Monsoon humidifier, COB LED lighting, timers, drip liner and filter disks, but it does not include the climate control system — no infrared heater, circulation fan, lava rock tray or digital thermostat — and no aluminum trays. It also comes with a Bluetooth thermometer/hygrometer. If your room already sits at a good fruiting temperature, the Foundation Edition is all you need. If you need the tent to hold its own temperature, choose the full Mushroom Ecosphere 3.0.
Can I add heat to the Foundation Edition later?
Yes. Our greenhouse heater and humidity control unit — a 200W infrared heater with a convection fan and lava rock tray — sits on the bottom rack, and a digital temperature controller switches it on and off to hold your set point. Together they turn a Foundation Edition into a heated, climate-controlled chamber.
Is the humidity automatic?
The Monsoon humidifier runs on its own 24-hour programmable timer, so it switches on and off at the same times every day. You refill the 3L tank and watch conditions on the Bluetooth thermometer/hygrometer, which you can read on the unit or from your phone. To have the humidifier respond to the actual humidity reading instead of the clock, add a digital humidity controller.
What can I grow in the Foundation Edition?
Anything that fruits well at your room temperature — oysters, lion's mane, shiitake, chestnut, cordyceps and more. Because there is no heater taking up the bottom rack, every shelf is available for jars, spawn bags, fruiting blocks, monotubs or casing trays, and it is common to run several species at once.
Should I choose the 4-tier or the 5-tier?
Both use the same 29" x 20" footprint with the drip liner and the same humidifier and lighting. The 4-tier tent is 63" tall with 17.7 cubic feet of growing space; the 5-tier is 75" tall with 22.5 cubic feet and an extra full shelf. If ceiling height allows, the 5-tier gives you the most room for the same floor space.
Do I need more fresh air than the filter disks provide?
The ten peel-and-stick filter disks give passive air exchange that works for many grows. High-oxygen species like oysters and lion's mane form thicker stems and better caps with more airflow, and a fully loaded tent uses more air — the Fresh Air Amplifier fan unit adds an adjustable-speed fan and washable filter vent that plugs into a timer.
