Important Notes

Still Air Boxes are an excellent sterile solution for beginners and intermediate growers, but they are not a replacement for a laminar flow hood or FFU. While an SAB can significantly improve results, sensitive procedures—such as agar transfers and spore-to-liquid culture work—still require careful sterile technique.

Pairs perfectly with agar plates, petri dishes, scalpels, alcohol wipes, liquid culture jars, and other lab accessories for a complete sterile workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a still air box good enough, or do I need a laminar flow hood?

A still air box is an excellent, affordable entry point for sterile work and handles most beginner and intermediate procedures well, including agar transfers, grain-to-grain, liquid culture, and spawn bag inoculation. It is not a full replacement for a laminar flow hood or FFU, which push filtered air across your workspace for the highest level of contamination control. Many growers start with an SAB and add a flow hood later as their volume grows.

What can I use a still air box for?

It is built for the steps where contamination risk is highest: pouring and transferring agar plates, grain-to-grain transfers, inoculating and expanding liquid culture, and inoculating spawn bags and jars. Any task where you are opening a sterile container and want to minimize airborne particles is a good fit.

What is the working area, and will my equipment fit?

The interior working area is 30" × 20" × 21", which comfortably fits agar plates, multiple jars, a spawn bag, and your tools at the same time. The elastic arm ports are sized to fit most users while limiting air disturbance.

Do I need experience to use one?

No — it is beginner-friendly and requires no electricity, fans, or airflow setup. It assembles in minutes and folds down for storage. Solid sterile technique (working slowly, wiping surfaces, and flame-sterilizing tools) still matters and will give you the best results.

Does it come with everything I need to get started?

Each kit includes the still air box tent, sterilized nitrile gloves, a 1 oz Myco Labs Eco-Cleanse sample spray for wiping down your workspace, and a protective storage case. You will want to add your own alcohol, tools, and cultures.
