Description

The Manure/Grass Lover's Bulk Spawn Growing & Casing Kit is the smaller, tray-based way to grow grassland and dung-loving species. It includes three 13" × 9" aluminum trays with clear dome lids, 6 lbs of pasteurized horse manure-based substrate and 5 lbs of sterilized peat casing. Add your own colonized grain spawn. It is GordoTEK-compatible: the trays can go into a warm water-bath tote, a tabletop tent or an Ecosphere shelf.

Three trays. Three separate grows.

Split your spawn across three domed trays. If one tray contaminates, you throw it out and keep the other two.

Why growers pick the tray kit

Tray kit contents: aluminum trays with clear domes, manure substrate bags and a casing bag
Everything but the spawn

Trays, domes, substrate and casing in one box. Bring 2–3 lbs of colonized grain or spawn bags and start the same day.

Aluminum tray of substrate fully colonized with white mycelium
Spread the risk

Three separate trays instead of one big tub. A contaminated tray goes in the trash; the others keep growing.

Fits where you have room

Trays fit in a tabletop tent, on an Ecosphere shelf, or floated inside a warm water-bath tote, GordoTEK style.

How it works

The same cased, high-air approach as GordoTEK's tote method, scaled down to trays.

Gloved hands sprinkling colonized grain spawn over manure-based substrate 1Spawn to substrate

Mix fully colonized grain into the manure substrate and divide it across the three trays. GordoTEK recommends roughly 1:2 to 1:3 spawn to substrate.

Put the domes on and keep the trays warm until the surface is fully white.

Gloved hand sprinkling a thin layer of peat and vermiculite casing over colonized substrate 3Case it thin

Sprinkle about 1/4" of the sterilized casing evenly over each tray and spray it down heavily.

Several aluminum trays fruiting dense clusters of small mushrooms inside a tote 4Fruit with fresh air

Mist several times a day and give the trays plenty of fresh air. Crack the domes or move them into a tent.

GordoTEK tip: want the warm water-bath method without a big tub? Set the trays inside the top tote of a water-bath setup instead of filling the tote with substrate. The bath keeps all three warm.

FAQ

Does this kit include grain spawn?

No. Bring your own fully colonized grain. A 3-pack of 32 oz 5-grain jars is about the right amount for the 6 lbs of substrate.

How much spawn should I use?

GordoTEK recommends roughly 1:2 to 1:3 spawn to substrate for this style of grow. More spawn colonizes faster and lowers contamination risk.

Is this the same as the Complete XL kit?

No. This is the smaller, tray-based kit with 6 lbs of substrate and no grain, heater or totes. The Complete XL kit is the full GordoTEK tote setup with 9 lbs of substrate and everything else included.

Can I use the trays in a water bath?

Yes. GordoTEK suggests setting smaller trays inside the top tote of a warm water-bath setup, so you get the heat and humidity of his method with three separate grows.

Is the substrate sterilized or pasteurized?

The manure substrate is pasteurized at 160°F for 3–4 hours, the same way as our Willy's Blend. The casing is fully sterilized, like our Master's Mix bags.

Can this kit be used for Panaeolus cyanescens (formerly Copelandia cyanescens)?

Technically, yes: GordoTEK built this method around the warm, high-fresh-air, cased conditions that grassland and dung-loving species need. We sell it for lawful cultivation only, so check your local laws and regulations before growing any species.

Note: This kit is sold for lawful cultivation only. It is not intended to grow Panaeolus cyanescens or Psilocybe natalensis (now ochraceocentrata) unless you are legally licensed by your local agricultural or research authorities. Always check your local laws and regulations before cultivating any species.
