Description
The Complete XL Specialty Grass Lover's Kit is the full-size kit built with GordoTEK to match his Easy Tek: two low-profile totes, a heated water bath, sterilized 5-grain spawn, 9 lbs of horse manure-based substrate, a sterilized peat casing and the screen setup. It is made for grassland and dung-loving species that want warmth, a cased surface and a lot of fresh air. No humidifier, fan, tent or timer required.
- 9 lbsManure substrate
- 5 lbsPeat casing
- 3 × 32 oz5-grain jars
- 2 totes29" × 18" × 6"
- Low 80s °FWater bath
Why growers pick the Grass Lover's XL
The bottom tote holds water and the Grower's Select digital heater keeps it in the low 80s. The grow tote floats on top, so the substrate stays warm even in a cold, dry room.
Shallow 6" totes give a wide surface and short air path. A window screen and an angled lid replace the fan and humidifier: you mist three times a day and they hold the moisture.
Grain is sterilized, substrate is pasteurized and vacuum sealed, and the casing is sterilized and ready out of the bag. Inoculate the jars and you are done prepping.
How the GordoTEK tote method works
The short version of the method. Watch Gordo's video and read his full write-up on the GordoTEK Easy Tek page before you start.
1Spawn to substrate
Once the three jars are fully colonized, shake them up, spread the substrate in the top tote and mix the grain in evenly. Pat the surface smooth and put the lid on.
2Float it on warm water
Fill the bottom tote about halfway with warm water, add the heater and float the grow tote on top. Keep the water in the low 80s °F and leave the lid closed until it colonizes.
3Add a thin casing
When the surface is fully white, sprinkle on a thin, even layer of casing, about 1/4". Spray it down heavily. You are now in fruiting conditions.
4Screen, lid, mist
Clamp the screen over the tote. Mist the casing and both sides of the screen three times a day, then set the wet lid on at an angle so two corners stay open. Rotate it each time.
Tip from GordoTEK: if a gap opens between the substrate and the tote wall, pour a little water straight into it. After each harvest, pour about 1/2 cup of water slowly across the surface. The lid should always show some moisture on its underside; if it is dry, water more.
Prepared in-house, ready to use
Substrate and casing come out of our own autoclaves
Every bag in this kit is made at our Illinois facility. The manure-based substrate is a blend of sun-aged, pasture-fed horse manure, finely chopped straw, coir, vermiculite and a pH buffer. It is hydrated, pasteurized and vacuum sealed in 3 lb bags. The casing is sphagnum peat moss and vermiculite, pH-adjusted and sterilized.
- Substrate pasteurized, like our Willy's Blend
- Casing sterilized, like our Master's Mix bags
- Grain jars pressure-sterilized
The manure substrate is pasteurized at 160°F for 3–4 hours. That knocks back competitors while keeping the beneficial microbes manure-based substrate is known for.
The casing sits on the surface the whole fruiting cycle, so it is fully sterilized at 15 PSI before it ships.

FAQ
Is this the GordoTEK kit?
Yes. This is the full-size kit we built with GordoTEK to match his Easy Tek: the recommended low-profile totes, the heater, the screen, 9 lbs of manure-based substrate, casing and grain. He reviews and approves our samples, and links to this kit from his write-up.
Do I need a humidifier, fan or grow tent?
No. The warm water bath, the screen and the angled lid do that work as long as you mist three times a day. In a very dry room a humidifier nearby can help, but most growers don't need one.
What temperature should the water bath be?
The low 80s °F. GordoTEK sets his heater to 82°F. Use the included probe thermometer to check the water and adjust the heater if it drifts.
How thick should the casing layer be?
Thin: about 1/4", sprinkled on evenly and sprayed down heavily. The 5 lb bag is more casing than one grow needs, so you will have some left for the next one.
How do I inoculate the grain jars?
Use 3–4cc of spores or 5–7cc of liquid culture per 32 oz jar. Shake liquid culture syringes well first. Spores and cultures are not included.
How long does the tub take to colonize?
In GordoTEK's grows the tub usually colonizes in 6–8 days in the warm water bath. Leave the lid closed until the surface is fully white, then case it.
Can this kit be used for Panaeolus cyanescens (formerly Copelandia cyanescens)?
Technically, yes: GordoTEK built this method around the warm, high-fresh-air, cased conditions that grassland and dung-loving species need. We sell it for lawful cultivation only, so check your local laws and regulations before growing any species.
What do I buy for the next grow?
The XL Refill Kit covers the substrate and casing. Add a 3-pack of 32 oz 5-grain jars for spawn. The totes, heater, thermometer and screen are reusable.
Note: This kit is sold for lawful cultivation only. It is not intended to grow Panaeolus cyanescens or Psilocybe natalensis (now ochraceocentrata) unless you are legally licensed by your local agricultural or research authorities. Always check your local laws and regulations before cultivating any species.
