Description
Our Original Rye Grain Spawn Jars are three sterilized 32oz wide-mouth glass jars of hydrated rye berries — the classic single-grain spawn — ready for spores or liquid culture.
Rye's uniform kernels, moisture balance and nutrient profile make it dependable to colonize, easy to shake and simple to spawn to bulk. Each lid has a self-healing injection port and a 0.22 micron filter patch.

Why growers pick rye jars
- Classic rye performance – Uniform kernels with good moisture balance and nutrient density for dependable colonization.
- Easy to shake – Rye kernels separate cleanly when shaken, so recovery after a shake is quick.
- Clean inoculation – Self-healing injection port and a 0.22 micron filter patch on every lid.
- Sterile and ready – Hydrated and pressure-sterilized, ready for spores or liquid culture.
- Built for bulk – Colonized rye spreads evenly through bulk substrate for monotubs, trays and grow bags.

What's in the pack
- Three 32oz wide-mouth glass jars
- Premium hydrated rye berries
- Self-healing injection port and 0.22 micron filter patch on every lid
- Hydrated and pressure-sterilized
How to use them
- Prep. Wipe the injection port with alcohol and use a sterile needle and syringe.
- Inoculate. Inject 3–4cc of spore solution or 5–7cc of liquid culture through the self-healing port. Not sure how many syringes to buy? Use our syringe calculator.
- Incubate. Keep the jar warm, out of direct light and undisturbed until mycelium is clearly growing.
- Shake. At about 25–30% colonization, shake the jar to break up the grain and spread the mycelium, then let it finish.
- Spawn to bulk. Once the jar is fully white, break it up and mix it evenly into bulk substrate in your monotub.

FAQ
Why use rye grain for mushroom spawn?
Rye berries have a consistent kernel size, good moisture balance and plenty of nutrients, which makes them a dependable grain for colonizing, shaking and spawning to bulk.
How much spore solution or liquid culture per jar?
3–4cc of spore solution or 5–7cc of liquid culture, injected through the self-healing port after wiping it with alcohol.
How long does a jar take to colonize?
It depends on the strain, temperature and inoculant. Liquid culture usually colonizes faster than spores. If speed is the priority, our 24oz Super Quick jars are the fastest-colonizing jar we sell.
When should I shake the jar?
At about 25–30% colonization. Shake to break up the grain and spread the mycelium, then let the jar finish colonizing.
How many jars do I need for my monotub?
Plan on 1–2 jars per 5 lbs of bulk substrate. For a Small 28Q with about 4 lbs, one 32oz jar is enough; a Medium 44Q takes 2–3 jars and a Large 66Q 2–4.
How long do uninoculated jars keep?
They are made fresh. Use them within 90 days for best results, or refrigerate them to keep them up to 120 days.
Should I choose rye or 5-grain?
Both inoculate the same way. Rye is the classic single-grain spawn with uniform kernels; our 5-grain jars mix kernel sizes for more inoculation points.
