How to replace the seal
- Cool the canner. Make sure the canner is cool and fully depressurized, then remove the cover.
- Remove the old ring. Pull the worn sealing ring out of the groove inside the cover.
- Fit the new ring. Press the new ring evenly into the groove all the way around.
- Replace the overpressure plug. Remove the old plug and insert the new one into the same opening in the cover.
- Check the seal. Close the canner and run a cycle, watching that it comes up to pressure and holds it.
When to replace it: Swap the sealing ring and overpressure plug when the originals become brittle, deformed or inflexible, or when your canner struggles to seal or hold pressure.
