Description

Pink Oyster Liquid Culture Syringe (10cc)Pleurotus djamor, first-generation (G1) isolated genetics from Myco Labs. Pink Oyster is the fastest mushroom most people will ever grow, and the most striking. It forms dense, fan-shaped clusters in a saturated salmon pink and can go from spawned substrate to harvest in under two weeks in warm conditions.

Why Growers Choose Pink Oyster

Pink Oyster is the answer to a warm grow room. Where most gourmet species stall above 75°F, this subtropical strain fruits happily from 72 all the way to 85°F, which makes it the strain to run through summer, in a garage, or anywhere air conditioning is not an option. It is effectively the seasonal counterpart to Blue Oyster.

Speed is the other draw. Colonization takes ten to twelve days and fruiting follows in another twelve to fourteen, with pins appearing so quickly that first-time growers often think something has gone wrong. It also colonizes unconventional substrates readily — spent coffee grounds and cardboard both work — so it is a common choice for low-cost experimentation.

Two honest caveats. Pink Oysters have a short shelf life once harvested, typically only a couple of days refrigerated, so plan to cook them fresh. And the vivid pink fades substantially with cooking, leaving a tan mushroom with a mild seafood-like aroma that works well in a hot pan.

How to Use Your Liquid Culture Syringe

  1. Let the syringe come to room temperature, then shake gently to redistribute the mycelium evenly through the broth.
  2. Flame-sterilize the needle until it glows orange and let it cool for a few seconds.
  3. Wipe the injection port on your grain spawn bag or jar with the alcohol prep pad.
  4. Inject 2–3cc per quart jar, or 3–5cc per 3–5 lb spawn bag. One 10cc syringe inoculates roughly 2–4 containers.
  5. Incubate at 75–81°F in the dark for ten to twelve days, shaking once at roughly 30% colonization.
  6. Spawn to bulk substrate at roughly 1:3 grain-to-substrate and introduce fresh air — no cold shock needed, unlike cool-weather oysters.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much liquid culture do I use per bag or jar?

Use 2–3cc per quart grain jar and 3–5cc per 3–5 lb spawn bag. A single 10cc Pink Oyster syringe will inoculate roughly two to four containers. Adding more than the recommended dose does not speed colonization meaningfully and simply uses up the syringe faster.

How fast does Pink Oyster grow?

It is the fastest gourmet strain we carry. Grain colonizes in ten to twelve days at 75–81°F, and fruiting follows in another twelve to fourteen days. Pins often appear within three or four days of introducing fresh air, and the fruits can double in size overnight, so check your chamber daily once pinning starts.

What temperature does Pink Oyster need?

Pink Oyster is subtropical and wants warmth. Incubate at 75–81°F and fruit anywhere from 72 to 85°F. This is the opposite of Blue Oyster, which prefers 60–70°F, and it makes Pink the right choice for summer grows and unconditioned spaces. Below about 65°F this strain slows dramatically and may not pin at all.

Can I grow Pink Oyster on coffee grounds?

Yes. Pink Oyster is one of the few gourmet species that colonizes spent coffee grounds reliably. Use grounds that are fresh from brewing, since brewing effectively pasteurizes them, and mix them with straw or sawdust rather than using them alone — pure coffee grounds compact and go anaerobic. Cardboard also works well with this strain.

Why did my Pink Oyster mushrooms lose their color?

Color fades naturally as the fruits mature, and fades further with cooking — a bright pink cluster will come out of the pan tan or beige. This is normal and not a sign of a problem. Harvest while the caps are still curled under and the color is at its most saturated for the best appearance and texture.

Do I need a flow hood or still air box to use liquid culture?

A still air box is strongly recommended and a laminar flow hood is better still. Liquid culture syringes ship sealed and lab-tested, but the moment you pierce an injection port you are exposing your grain to whatever is in the room air. Working in still air with flame-sterilized tools dramatically improves your success rate.

How should I store the syringe before use?

Keep it refrigerated between 35 and 45°F and never freeze it — freezing ruptures the cell walls and kills the culture. Store it in the sealed bag it shipped in, away from strong odors. Bring it back to room temperature and shake gently before injecting.

Packed to Arrive Alive

A liquid culture syringe is living mycelium, and the trip from our Illinois lab to your door is the part of its life you have the least control over. That is why every Myco Labs liquid culture ships inside a foil-lined insulated mailer rather than a plain envelope. The insulation buffers the syringe against summer heat sitting in a delivery truck and against sub-freezing temperatures in winter, so your culture arrives viable in either extreme.

When it arrives: move the syringe to the refrigerator at 35–45°F until you are ready to inoculate. Never freeze it. Bring it back to room temperature and shake gently before use.
