  • How does a flowhood work with mushroom growing?

This model is a horizontal flowhood which creates a low velocity air flow that blows toward you. This air is super filtered and is 99.99% sterile. It can be used in any environment for many different things. The sterile moving air allows you to work in the space and open up substrate jars, bags, transfers, make spore syringes, work with agar plates and much more. If you ever experienced mold from inoculations, this will eliminate that.

Went back and forth between building my own or buying an already assembled flow hood. Forums and youtube will tell you"Building is cheaper." After pricing out wood and fans, the most you'll save is like $200 building one of this size. Also, who wants to spend their weekend at the hardware store? Sounds not fun.

Before I bought the flow hood I felt like a mold farmer. Since I have had this hood, 200+ mushroom bags have been inoculated and not a single one has been contaminated. Anyways, shipping was fast and setup was even faster. The quality is solid.

    Nice Flow Hood.

    • shipping speed
    • customer service.
    Cons:
    • No external switch or logo.
Overall, I really like this hood. The price is decent, the build quality is great, and setup was super easy. One thing that bothered me was it did not come with the Bonsai logo, it is just a plain white box. The manager was super nice and explained that the manufacturer no longer paints the logos on because some many people wanted to put their own logo. He reached out to the manufacturer and they are sending me some Bonsai stickers to put on it. One other thing that I did not like is they did not install a switch on the outside of the hood. You either have to have to turn it on and off on the power strip, or lift up the pre-filter. Not a huge deal. It would not have been much cheaper to build my own flow hood and this one is very nice and the perfect size for my needs. I originally bought a FFU from Amazon but returned it immediately and bought this one, so glad I did. Highly recommended.

Cortland here from American Mushroom & Spice Co. We have a 7 foot wide down-flow unit we use for main block production on XLSA bags, but it was never ideal for fine culture work. This unit (18x 24) nailed it! It’s tall enough to be workable with 14A grain bags and 10 stacks of plates plus all your needed tools. Love it. Sure, it might be big enough for two people, but this one is all mine.
